Hello! I am Elaine Carey (Haswell), a Los Angeles-based, DIY-informed production designer and experimental musician.
I found my way into the art department through a college internship at The Onion and comedy has remained at the center of my work ever since. As a member of the Art Director’s Guild (IATSE Local 800), I’ve contributed production design to three seasons of Emmy-winning Netflix sketch show I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson, Adult Swim’s surreal Infomercials, and countless other projects, spanning commercials, TV specials, music videos, and independent films.
As a sound artist, I work through free improvisation and extended technique across both traditional instruments and electronics. In 2013 I co-founded electroacoustic noise duo Telecaves (with Grammy-winning engineer Juliette Amoroso) and have since worked with artists including Paul McCarthy, in LAFMS supergroup Extended Organ, indie luminaries Xiu Xiu and Tara Jane O’Neil, and noise giant Carlos Giffoni (as Rogue Squares, since 2017). I’ve scored short films as well as live screenings, and I am currently at work on my debut solo LP.
Over the past decade, I’ve exhibited visual art, installation, and performance in community spaces like Coaxial Arts, The Elysian Theater, and Human Resources, as well more widely know institutions such as Hauser & Wirth, MOCA, and the Hammer Museum.
I am a proud member of the intersectional LGBTQ+ community, a vegetarian, and companion to a 13-year-old Dutch rabbit.
